What we live through does not disappear. It settles and keeps working over time.

In November, art takes over Olsztyn. Through concerts, exhibitions and conversations we will look into the sediment that has built up in us over the years and quietly shapes how we see the world.

FULL PROGRAMME

EVERYTHING WORKS. BUT SOMETHING SLIPS AWAY.

Your days run smoothly, one after another, and yet it is getting harder to remember the last time something truly moved you.

Sometimes you think about doing something different, but checking whether it will be any good takes time you don't have. Someone has already searched through this programme for you.

Art may interest you, yet at the back of your mind there is a worry that you won't understand something. There is no single right answer here — everyone hears and sees in their own way, and that is the whole point. And if you want to go deeper, you will get the tools for it: introductions before the concerts, programme notes, lectures and the chance to talk to the artists after the events.

FOUR DAYS FULL OF ART

From 19 to 22 November in Olsztyn you take a closer look at what is already within you — you just rarely have the space for it. It happens through concerts, exhibitions, performance and conversations, gathered around a single question: what stays with us?

The theme of the first edition — settling reality — is about how experiences, emotions and events build up in us in layers and quietly decide how we see the world.

You don't have to analyse it. Just come in and see what stirs in you when different forms meet in one place and start working with each other.

What you see and hear does not end when the event does.

THE FIRST FESTIVAL OF ITS KIND IN THE REGION

Contemporary music, visual arts, performance and science usually live apart — in different halls, on different dates, for different people. OSAD brings them together and lets them act on one another. That is why one event explains another here, even if you can't say right away how it works.

The four pieces you will hear in November do not exist anywhere else yet — they are being written especially for this festival. The same goes for some of the works you will see at the exhibition. To hear and see them, you need to be in Olsztyn on these four days.

HOW IT WORKS

You choose the evenings that draw you in. You can come for one or stay for all four.

Admission is free. For the opening night and for “Emotional Sediment” you book a ticket on the website; for all other events you just walk in, no registration needed.

Everything is ready for you on site: context, short introductions, and people who will help you find your way if you need it. The most important things, however, happen between you and what you see and hear.

YOU ARE NOT ALONE IN THIS

Conversations remain after the events. Sometimes it is a brief glance, sometimes a remark from the person next to you that suddenly names what you are feeling yourself.

What is most personal very often turns out to be shared.

WHO IS BEHIND IT

Joanna Kaczmarczyk
Joanna Kaczmarczyk — visual artist, winner of the First Prize at the 11th Olsztyn Art Biennale, author of exhibitions in Poland and abroad.
Jan Staruch
Jan Staruch — musician, violinist specialising in contemporary music, prize-winner of international competitions, performing in Poland and across Europe.

Both work with art professionally, and both designed this programme backwards — starting from what should remain after it.

What we live through settles in art. What we experience in art settles in us.

More about the festival directors

BEFORE THE MAIN DAYS BEGIN

We open the festival two weeks earlier, on 6 November, with a concert of film and TV series music at Aura Centrum — together with the exhibition “Seeing Knowledge”, which can be visited throughout November. Then we take the concert on tour to Dobre Miasto, Biskupiec and Stawiguda.

This part of the festival goes out to people instead of waiting for them to come — to the city centre and to towns where contemporary art rarely stops. You don't have to plan a trip: just pause in the middle of an ordinary day. Free admission, no registration.

WHAT REMAINS

You return to your life and at first glance nothing changes.
And yet something starts working differently.

You catch moments that used to be transparent. You recognise more quickly what is going on inside you. You carry images and sounds that come back when you least expect them.

November will pass anyway.
The only question is whether something of it will remain.
